What to see in the Gargano in 7 days: complete itinerary

October 2025

The Gargano from above

Seven days. The minimum time needed to begin understanding the Gargano, and the maximum most of you have available. We at Casa e Bottega built this itinerary based on years of hospitality: it's not a list of monuments, it's a journey that changes the way you look at the territory.

Day 1: Arrival in Manfredonia and discovery of the old town

Arrive in the morning or afternoon, it doesn't matter. Reach Casa e Bottega, drop your bags, take a deep breath. Then walk towards the old town, visit the Swabian Castle, sit on the seafront at sunset, eat where the owner recommends. Don't do any sightseeing — just live.

Day 2: Siponto, the Castle and the magic of the basilica

Vieste, the clifftop village of the Gargano

Visit the Basilica of Siponto in the morning. In the afternoon, head up to the Swabian Castle of Manfredonia. The National Museum of Gargano contains Daunian stelae that no travel guide can adequately describe. Spend hours there, in silence.

Day 3: Monte Sant'Angelo and the Umbra Forest

Set off for Monte Sant'Angelo in the morning. Arrive before the tourists, descend into the cave of the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, wander aimlessly through the white alleyways. In the afternoon, enter the Umbra Forest, a beech and fir woodland at six hundred metres altitude.

Day 4: Vieste, the most beautiful clifftop village

Vieste is an hour along the coastal road — one of Italy's most beautiful roads, so take your time. Once in Vieste, visit the Pizzomunno, the white monolith rising from the sea. At night the town lights up softly: spend an hour wandering the narrow streets.

Day 5: Peschici, Rodi Garganico and the wild coast

Peschici is another white clifftop village, even more authentic than Vieste because less touristy. Rodi Garganico is a quiet port where fishermen still work without paying tourists any attention. You'll see wild beaches, white cliffs, sea that changes colour every metre.

Day 6: Mattinata, Baia delle Zagare, free beach

Choose a beach and stay there. Do no sightseeing. Swim, read, watch the sky, thoughts changing shape with the clouds. This day is for rest, not conquest.

Day 7: Return and stay in Manfredonia

On the last day, go to the fish market at the port at half past six. Have breakfast at a local bar. Walk the streets you walked a week ago: now you know the names of places. Even if the airport is close, stay on the beach a while longer. Don't rush to leave.
